Soft sided crates are growing in popularity every day!
This is because not only are they attractive, and are supplied with their own carry-bag, but they weigh substantially less than their wire counterparts.
Because of the cloth walls, they also give more privacy to the dog, which may be important with a nervous or, indeed, agressive dog.
This privacy may also be a factor whilst travelling - a closed environment tends to protect somewhat from car sickness.
HOWEVER please do remember that the crate is basically a cloth, so if your dog chews, or if it is unused to being crated and tries to get out, it will undoubtedly tear the crate. Sadly, but we hope understandably, we cannot be held responsible should this occur.
Nevertheless, many owners do prefer these soft, attractive crates.
Here, at Just Love Dogs, we offer 2 types of soft crate - one with a tubular frame (which is available in 2 designs) and one with a wire frame - the Croft Fabrikennel.Tube Framed Soft Crates.
These crates have a strong tubular framework inside the cloth walls, and fold away into their own carry-bag.
each crate has 3 doors! :-
one at the top, one in the short end, and one in the long side, thus ensuring that the crate is never the "wrong way round."
There are 2 basic styles of tubular crate - the Sunburst, and the Classic.
Both styles are of equal quality, with the Classic range having roll-down flaps over the windows.
The Classic is also available in two colours - Red'n'Beige, and Black'n'Beige.
Wire Framed Soft Crates.
The Croft Fabrikennel was our first soft crate, and it has retained its remarkable popularity!
The framework here is a strong but lightweight wire, rather than the tube described above.
It is fair to say that it is not as sturdy as the tube option, but it gains by being lighter and very easy to erect. (It simply zips together!)
Supplied with a door in the short end, and its own carry bag.PLEASE REMEMBER THAT SOFT CRATES ARE ONLY SUITABLE FOR DOGS WHICH ARE CONTENT WITHIN A CRATE.
If you have a new dog or puppy, and you are unsure about whether to choose a soft crate or a wire crate, please consult your breeder, who will be pleased to help you.
It is perhaps worth remembering that wire crates can be supplied with crate covers as an optional extra, giving them the advantages of pivacy etc. outlined above.
********************TRAVEL CRATES
Plastic Crates.
These crates are basically in two halves - the top and the bottom, and fix together using turn-screws or clips, depending upon the design.
All have a door in the short end only.
They are popular as travel crates due to their silence and the provision of some privacy for the dog.
The Clipper range offers an economical alternative, but does not meet IATA regulations - so if you are thinking of a crate for use on board an aircraft, then this is not for you!
The Tonga and Idhra ranges are both IATA compliant, BUT if you are thinking of flying with them, please consult your airline as many airlines interpret the rules differently, and some even introduce rules of their own!
Wire Car Crates.
These foldaway wire crates are available in two sizes, and all are supplied with a door in the front, and an escape door at the rear.
They have all the same charactaristics as the Showman wire crates (above) but are tapered to fit into a car.
If you are thinking of a wire car crate, and are unsure of the size, please telephone us on 01257 484200 for advice.
